The Small-Business Advertising Readiness Checklist

Fix the offer, landing page, tracking, account access, and fulfilment basics before spending money on automated campaigns.

Advertising amplifies what already exists. If the offer is clear and the buying journey works, ads can bring more qualified people into it. If the page is confusing or tracking is broken, automation can spend faster without learning the right lesson.

Use this checklist before launching Meta or Google campaigns. You do not need a perfect business. You do need a journey that a new customer can understand, complete, and measure.

1. Make the offer understandable in seconds

  • State what the product or service is, who it is for, and the primary outcome.
  • Show the price or explain how pricing works before asking for substantial commitment.
  • Identify the strongest reason to choose you instead of a familiar alternative.
  • Use proof the customer can evaluate: demonstrations, specific testimonials, policies, credentials, or transparent product details.
  • Remove claims you cannot substantiate.

2. Complete the purchase or lead journey yourself

Test on a real mobile device using a normal connection. Click the ad’s intended landing URL, navigate the page, submit the form or place a test order, confirm payment behavior, and inspect every message sent afterward.

Check page speed, readability, stock status, shipping information, returns, payment methods, form validation, and the path back after an error. A technically working page can still create doubt at the exact moment a buyer needs confidence.

3. Define and verify conversion measurement

Choose one primary conversion that reflects value: purchase, qualified lead, booked appointment, or another meaningful outcome. Google explicitly connects conversion measurement with automated bidding and recommends setting goals that represent valuable customer actions.

Verify that each real action fires once, carries the correct value when applicable, and is attributed to the right account. Preserve order IDs or lead IDs so duplicated events can be diagnosed. Document consent and privacy disclosures for the data you collect.

4. Prepare access and ownership

  • The business should own its ad account, page, analytics property, product feed, domain, and billing relationship.
  • Grant partners or tools the minimum permissions needed rather than sharing personal passwords.
  • Enable multi-factor authentication and keep recovery details current.
  • Record who can approve creative, increase budgets, pause campaigns, and change tracking.
  • Set a clear process for revoking access when a relationship ends.

5. Assemble launch-ready creative

  • A clean product or service demonstration
  • Customer-problem and customer-outcome angles
  • Static, vertical video, and adaptable source files
  • Accurate prices, offers, dates, terms, and disclaimers
  • A consistent destination that delivers what the ad promises

6. Decide the rules before money is moving

Set the total test budget, daily limits, target economics, review cadence, and stop conditions. Decide how long the campaign can learn before routine performance judgments, while preserving immediate stops for broken links, incorrect pricing, policy issues, or runaway spend.

Finally, confirm fulfilment. Inventory, response times, sales capacity, shipping coverage, and customer support must be able to absorb the demand you are trying to create.
